Pianos For Peace in Rochester NY

Pianos for Peace is a project where pianos will be placed around the city in 11 locations and will be painted peace-themed by youth, local artists, and community members.

In September 2013 the Arts Division will be receiving one.
Description
On Monday, August 5, 2013, residents of Rochester and their visitors will begin to see and experience real pianos in various outdoor public spaces. This event is known as Pianos for Peace and is a collaboration between multiple neighborhood organizations, the Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, the University of Rochester, the Eastman School of Music, the Rochester City School District, and many other sponsors. Pianos will be placed in 11 locations around the City and will be painted by youth, local artists, and community members and will include their own interpretation of what peace means to them. The pianos are open for all to play throughout the month of August. A variety of events will take place at each piano. At the end of the month, all the pianos will be collected to form a Piano Park for Peace on the grounds of the Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence.

Pianos will be placed at the following locations: the Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence, SWAN Community Center, Parsells Little Flower Community Garden, Pulaski Park, Danforth Community Center, Frontier Field, Sahlen Stadium, MuCCC, the Public Market, Aqueduct Park, and the Greater Rochester International Airport.

If you would like to get involved with painting, performing at the pianos, or volunteering to help watch over a piano, please contact Marissa Balonon-Rosen at PianosForPeace@gmail.com.
